3 web sites with lots of links

Practical jokes aside, scientists do catch snipe. Photo © Matt Miller/TNC

Snipe hunting is a lot of fun.  I found this web site which has 10 good links to more info in the subject.  Snipe Hunting: myth and legend  This site has good pictures and has a good environmental feel on the issue of snipe hunting.  Shockingly enough the Snipe is a real bird.  This site has a great photo of the elusive bird, that has plagued so many young adventures.  On this site the links are green which, to my liking are in tune with the theme of the page.  Nature and its conservation ring true throughout.  Good site.

Wilson's SnipeOne of the greatest things about the hunting is memory's and stories shared around the campfire.  Most of the time the elder huntsmen spend more time making the experience special for the younger ones.  The great american snipe hunt is one of those special memory's which some of the funniest story's are born from.  This site has a great story with the boy scouts.  Bird Freak  I have roughly counted forty one links on this page.  I included the ads.  I thought the ad on online coding boot camp was a nice fit for the bird loving community, not!  This site mixed brown and blue links for local or web links(absolute, and relative). Not great but good.

This next site is the grand daddy of them all.  This site has roughly over 250 plus links.  All these links are blue which brings a calming effect to the page.  My eyes drooped, and I was barely able to count the links.  Wild Hunt

Now I know this is a Wikipedia site, with lots of references, but a better design could really help the user process and move through the information in a better way.  For instance, link colors could be grouped in sub-color category's to group relative information together.  I mean, the darn page is half blue.  It really distracts the eye from being able to read the content in a productive way.  Bad site.

Practical jokes at deer camp. This site has me rolling on the floor with laughter.  I love these story's and practical jokes of people just having fun.  Hunting can be a lot of fun when your with your good friends and family having fun.  I have done something very similar with the deer poop to trick the new guy.  Its the oldest trick in the book.  This web sight is not as elusive as the American snipe, as it is easy to find and regularly updated.  Field and stream have always had a great reputation of building great memories with family and friends, and helping use remember those memories.

Oregon lottery.  This site is a very functional and pleasing site to visit.  Although I must admit, I end up angry as the tickets I always check never seem to be winners.  I got four numbers on a megabucks
ticket and won $43 dollars.  Do you know how hard it is to get four numbers in the megabucks.  I thought i had won at least a thousand bucks.  Well, I must admit my shock that i had only won $43 bucks was well placed upon the nice

lady checking my ticket, but I was blind-sided in my defense. The Oregon lottery web site is nicely done, with pleasing pictures, and great functionality.  As this picture shows, Oregon lottery web site shows how lottery money helps each county.  This is the part I really like, because its not just the game this site shows, but how the lottery in its own way helps people.

Oregon Art.  The OPB web site Oregon Art has many good qualities to it.  It is easy to view the art displayed in the tiles.  The fact that it is a showcase of Oregon art is great for Oregon and the artists.  I like to view the site as inspiration for my own projects.  I think OPB is one of the greatest organizations in furthering the betterment of the culture of all people.

memorys

I remember snipe hunting when I was a kid.  My favorite time was when I was at my friends house spending the night, and his mom and dad asked if we all wanted to go snipe hunt.  Of course, we yelled yes!
The critical time to hunt snipe is dusk.  In our preparations we found all the brightest, shiniest, and glow in the dark items and cloths we could find.  Dressed to the "nines," we went out for the hunt.  We had flashlights, streamers, a net, a bag, glow sticks, pots and pans to clang together to call a snipe in.  Out into the night we went, and what a sight we were!
Well, I don't remember catching a snipe that night, but I remember half the neighborhood coming out to watch us try.  I remember them shouting encouragement, and laughing.  What a great time.

Little did we know that how we were hunting the snipe was the way researchers do it for real.

The snipe hunting tradition has continued in wildlife research, with updated tools and techniques.  For example a 1959 report from the Illinois Natural History survey outlines the snipe-hunting method (they call it “night-lighting”) using a truck driven through a field with a generator-powered bank of spotlights, with a trapper riding on the hood carrying a long-handled net.
Scientists use a spotlight and large net to capture birds at night. Variations of this technique are still used in the field.
